Heads UP!!! Woop Woop… 100 blogs notched…
Due to my new found inquisitiveness about my family I aim to break the male mould and find out the truth about my past.
So in a quick random phone call home, I retrieved these little nuggets of gold…
1) Weight at birth = 10lbs 12 onze
2) Nickname = Kojak (in hospital) I was taken to the baby care ward, where I was the biggest baby in there, and also I had no hair!
3) Walk or talk first = Walk at 11 months
4) Name if I had been a girl = Catherine Lucy
5) Hair colour at birth = ( see number 2)
6) Favourite toy = a toy lamb.
7) Bottle or breast. = Bottle, though not through choice, that was dictated by the hospital!
8) First memory = Being told at the age of 3 yrs, that I was going to get a baby sister!!!
9) One of my favourite things as a kid = my superman duvet cover set!
10) Stupidest thing I did as a kid. = drank a whole pint of undiluted orange juice… DOH!!!
My mother is sending a book of baby facts for me, so expect more gems next week.
The truth is out there! ……

new tricks and crazy baby songs !!
Saturday afternoon
Darcy is playing up..
No
She is grouchy !
She is not happy on her play mat
She is not happy being held
She is not happy sitting being read to
She is not happy being fed.
Not even her favourite “fuzzy bee” book can keep her quiet!!
The only thing that works is to hold her
In the air, so she is standing up.
Then singing, the theme from The Pink Panther
Whilst she air walks up my stomach !!
NO… REALLY !!! this works, but you can’t keep doing it for hours !
Another favourite song of hers ( she laughs… with me.. I think, or is it at me ??? ) Is the Tiger song..
“Darcy is a Tiger.
She is sometimes a spider.
She has 2 arms
She has 2 legs
And a pretty head !”
Yep it makes no sense at all ! I suspect she knows this !!
Darcy’s new trick this week is when you hold her on your shoulder, she moves her head to your other shoulder, swiping her now teething very dribbling chin across my face !!
She can also roll, from her back to her stomach using 1 leg as a counter weight if she gets stuck on the arm trapped underneath her !!
All these are life skills, which will stand her well in later life, I’m sure.

" May the good Lord shine a light on you.
Make every song your favourite tune
May the good lord shine a light on you.
Warm like the evening sun"
Rolling stones.... "shine a light"
I felt like this last night, as driving for over an hour in rush hour, i finally got home and got to hold my daughter !! Fantastic !!

Aint life great....
Jayne took her 97 year old grand dad shopping on Tuesday.
His favourite clothes shop is closing
And he wanted to buy a new suit in the sale!
He ended up with 2 new jackets,
Which he was very proud of.
One of the jackets is to wear now through the winter,
The other is for next year,
As he is planning next years summer wardrobe.
What a fantastic out look to have on life!!

random radio themes today
The radio this morning had two very random lines of discussion…
Firstly why can British people have a good stab, at doing an American accent, yet Americans can not do a British accent?? (Random) this story was backed up with live phones calls to people in Illinois (why there I do not know) to test the theory. There was varying degrees of success.
Secondly… Memories of childhood.
I suddenly thought of the soda stream?? Why I do not know, but I do remember the day that our family pur – chased this (then wonderful invention)!! Not the deluxe version mind, just the standard.
For years before this I remember my dad shaking a water flask, with a small gas cylinder to make soda water, (this was a treat to have on Sunday’s) Fizzy orange never tasted so good!!
So when the soda stream arrived there was much excitement as you can imagine!! (Trying to sneak on extra squeeze of gas into the water bottle!) , and finding the bottles nearly exploded!! Ha-ha, and who tried to add plain tap water to the cordials to see if they tasted the same!! )
Guilty as charged on all counts!
So today’s random tasks are as follows...
1) If you British, try to do and American accent.
2) If you are American try to do a British accent
3) In honour of the Soda stream, go dig it out and see if it still works, and marvel at the ingenuity of how we used to get fizzy drinks, without going out and buying g a can!!

Time is all we have
There are two things I miss in my life…
My two grand dads
I nearly always think of them, everyday.
Even though they were from different backgrounds, and different lives. One was a school teacher, who volunteered to fight in WW2, and was based in Egypt, and Italy, during the war. The other was a miner, who served in the Fire Service during the war. One voted conservative, the other Labour. Their differences were quite vast, but the love they had was the same, and I had the same for them.
My proposal to Jayne (we had already talked about it) was in Venice, but it was on the same day as one of my Grand dads funerals. (I could not cancel the holiday)
My wedding to Jayne was one of my best days of my life, (bar the birth of Darcy) but it would have been better if they had been there. I know they were there in spirit, but it is not quite the same, I tried the “toast to absent friends” and missed by a mile. My dad managed to say what I failed to.
Now we have Darcy-pops, and naturally I would want my granddads to have a part in her life, but it is not to be, that’s something I have to deal with. I will have to make do with telling her about them.
I’m a man, and naturally men do not ask enough questions. We get the basic facts, I know little about my months as a baby, or about what my parents thought when I was born etc, etc, (bar the fact the nurses nicknamed me Kojak, (i was bold and nearly 11 lbs ))or when I first spoke etc , walked etc. It is the same with my grand dads. I knew them, but did I really KNOW them??
Something I MUST do in the future is learn to ask more questions, to find out more about my family. I have dabbled with my family tree, but my immediate family are the most important, and while I have people around me, I have time to ask questions, and learn.
As I get older I get this nagging sense of time passing, and the fact that family and friends will not always be there, as a kid you think you, and your family will live forever,
I must learn to use time more wisely, look forward to holidays back home, and enjoy spending time with those I love.

Rain
Yesterday I was sad.
I stood in the rain
For about 15 minutes
I thought that the water
Would wash my
Worries away.
I got wet!!
Sometimes you need a little rain!

indication for the nation
Is it really too much to ask??? well is it ???
Is it really too hard just to move a finger and flick the indicator stem on the steering column ?? Friday night is hell on the roads, Yes we all want to get home quickly, but lets have a bit of common sense !!
Last friday i nearly saw a couple of crashes... and followed 1 car for 2 miles around 3 roundabouts , and not one indictor !! Come on !!
I travel on a road twice a day known as "the road of the Heads " because of the accidents, people are more inclined to move, signal mirrors, rather than the traditional mirror signal move !!
Is getting home 2 minutes early, worth the risk??

smell of the future
It’s over.
I can not be with you anymore…
I can not use you
No more, no more, no more…..
Well we’ve been together
For about 17 years
But I can not spend the money
On you anymore.
The smell has gone
It holds no appeal
You no longer do what
You say on the tin..
My old deodorant has been replaced !!
